Plaited Loaf

To fill your sunday morning home with the delicious smell of a freshly baked dream.

Ingredients
  • 1 kg flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 30-40 g fresh yeast
  • 1 soup spoon sugar
  • 150 g soft butter
  • 6-7 dl warm milk

Recipe

Sieve the flour in a big bowl and mix the salt in. Form a small mold with your hand and crumble the yeast in. Add the sugar and a little bit of milk, stir it to a slurry and leave it stand until it starts foaming and small bubbles appear.

Add the soft butter which is already at room temperature. Then gradually add milk to form a smooth and silky dough.

Cover the bowl with cloth and leave the dough at room temperature and let it rise to its double volume (approximately one hour).

Then plait it to a loaf and place it on a baking tray covered with baking parchment. Brush it with water and leave it stand at room temperature for another 40 minutes to rise. If you wish, you can coat the loaf with whisked egg yolk.

Bake the plaited loaf at 200°C for 45-55 minutes until it gets a golden crust.

Still slightly warm and coated with butter it is the perfect Sunday morning breakfast! 🙂
